Whispers in the Dark: The Power of Words and Imagination

By Karla Lasso, English Coordinator

A Celebration of Creativity and Learning

This October, our Spooky Story Writing Contest, “Whispers in the Dark”, invited students from 8th grade to 3rd Baccalaureate to transform their creativity and intriguing writing approach into an academically relevant activity. Through suspenseful and original Halloween stories, students explored creativity while applying Cambridge writing frameworks and IB principles of communication and reflection.

The primary objective of this contest is to promote authentic learning, where language represents a bridge between knowledge and self-expression. As they bring their stories to life, students learn to think critically, organize ideas with purpose, and use language with confidence and creativity. Every word becomes a choice, every story a reflection of their voice — a reminder that true learning happens when we create with meaning.

More than a contest, Whispers in the Dark celebrates the art of writing, the joy of learning, and the beauty of expressing who we are through language — reminding us that imagination is the essence that transforms learning into something truly meaningful.

Below, you will be able to see the incredible stories that won in that contest.
